Phil Satterley & Neal Morse (Spock's Beard) 1999
Phil got his start in video work at an early age from watching TV starting almost the day he was born to his parents buying their first VCR in 1982 "I bought a second one with my own money in 1983, and we were the first "two VCR" family on the block". Phil always had a passion for classic TV shows and is also an avid Doctor Who collector. "Yea, it started with recording some of the classic shows I remember as a kid and it just went down hill from there (grin). One show I really enjoyed was Doctor Who and when our local PBS station stopped carrying it, I started searching for episodes on video". In 1990 Phil attended Metropolitan State College in Denver studying Broadcasting and Technical Media where he met DAVE CORDES (who is now a fellow staff member) who both realized they had common interests, especially collecting rare Television shows on video. In 1994, after graduating college, Phil set his sights on bigger things and moved to Chicago where he met his wife Julia Satterley at, of all places, a waiting in line to meet actor Tom Baker Doctor Who convention."People STILL don't believe that story. We were at the end of the line and I just flew in to Chicago (I was still living in Colorado at the time) and got to the hotel when I saw the line forming, so I dumped my bags in the room hit the end of the line and asked this attractive woman who was right before me if she could take my picture of me shaking hands with Tom. "Only if you'll take one of me" she said. Little did I know when I sent her the photo a year later, this would be my future wife! (Julia is also an accomplished artist and has her own web site at http://www.juliasatterley.com)
In 1997 Phil got a job at a local public access cable TV station. This was the birth of Illage Videot productions. Phil got involved in several projects including producing an award-winning Progressive Rock TV show for the channel called *progrock. Soon Phil grew home sick for the rocky mountains, so he and his wife Julia decided to pack up and head west once again. While conducting an interview with Spock's Beard vocalist Neal Morse, Neal mentioned of an idea he had to produce a documentary on his band recording their fifth album titled V. After several discussions a deal was reached which lead to a long running relationship with Neal's record label RADIANT RECORDS. This lead to future projects with Mike Portnoy and Guitarist Dave Beegle. Phil is currently a video editor with National Cinemedia Where he edits and produces the "First Look" pre feature show for Regal, AMC and Cinemark movie theaters.
Besides doing video production work, Phil enjoys listening to Progressive Rock, collecting classic TV shows, classic video games, and spending time with his wife and their cat Merlin. "Prog has always been a major part of my life ever since I was hypnotized by the cover of GENESIS LIVE which I bought for a buck in a cutout bin. This lead to finding out about MARILLION, IQ, PENDRAGON and TWELFTH NIGHT." While attending IQ's first US gig at Progfest '93, Phil discovered there was a whole underground movement. "I thought there were only about 10 Prog fans in the world and only about 9 bands, boy was I wrong!" Phil is currently a video editor with NATIONAL CINEMEDIA where he edits and produces the "First Look" pre-feature show for Regal, AMC and Cinemark movie theaters throughout the United States.
